In the finishing treatment and protective coating industry, there are two important types of processes to improve the quality and durability of industrial parts. Specifically, shot blasting and metalizing.
Finishing Treatment: What is Shot Blasting?
Shot blasting is a finishing process that uses abrasives to treat industrial parts. The purpose could be to restore the part to original condition, remove the effects of corrosion, smooth out rough surfaces, clean dirt, or other purposes.
The finishing treatment is ideal for industrial parts with a large surface area. Or, if you are treating several of the same industrial parts at one time.
Prior to performing the treatment, it is important to determine the amount of force required to clean the part. You do not want to over-treat the part and cause unnecessary damage or deformities.
Protective Coating: What is Metalizing?
The metalizing process applies a protective coat to industrial parts. This ensures that the part is able to withstand extreme conditions, becomes resistant to wear, and is protected from the effects of corrosion.
Metalizing is a low-heat process that ensures the part will not be deformed or warped during or after the coating process. The process also creates a strong, mechanically-bonded coating that extends the life of the substrate.
Before being bonded to the substrate, the metal coating is first atomized by metal-spray equipment. The atomized droplets are then propelled towards the substrate, where they flatten upon impact and bond to the substrate object.
The result is a highly effective coating that will protect the part for decades to follow.
Consider Superior Shot Peening & Coatings for Metalizing
Our company offers a metalizing and hard banding coating process for industrial parts. Our process provides these benefits for your parts:
- Purer coating than galvanizing and will extend the life of the substrate.
- Cheaper option compared to painting.
- Corrosion protection for 50+ years.
- Ideal for offshore platforms, bridges, underwater concrete structures, and industrial plants with elevated temperatures.
